Somehow feeling hazy after the Chiba heavy rains cleared. Rediscovering the excellence of the GPZ900R. I relocated the choke wire using a KOSO CBN10-10.
Year after year, rainfall is getting worse, isn’t it? We’re no longer surprised by 100mm per hour. We hear about “record-breaking heavy downpours ” every week now. Combined with frequent earthquakes “Is Mount Fuji about to erupt?” or “The Nankai Trough?” —we can’t help but imagine these scenarios.
But seriously, everyone needs to start preparing in earnest soon or things will get really bad. When it comes to heavy rain, “bikes get submerged,” right? You might want to look for parking spots at higher elevations rather than underground rental garages… You also need to decide in advance where to move your bike during heavy rain.
Anyway, the bike is now complete and feels great to ride!
Today’s Test Ride & Feeling Log
Test Subject: Kawasaki GPz900R Ninja (A15 Model / Carb Overhaul & Frame Calibration Complete)
Situation: A summer afternoon when, despite the record-breaking downpours clearing, the muggy heat and humidity left the mood feeling unsettled.
The Thrill of Riding: From the first-crank start, the crisp intake sound of the CVK34 carb, the low-end torque, and the overwhelming stability as the bike settles and stretches toward higher revs.
Shop Owner’s Take: No matter how cloudy your mood, riding a perfectly tuned Ninja instantly clears your mind. All the reasons this bike has been loved for nearly 40 years are right there in your right hand on the throttle!
I made a flexible bracket using SUS304 spacers and round stock. The wire length is also adjusted to spec.
Since the lever catches on an edge when lifted, adding a slight radius makes it easier to operate.
I mounted it to the generator’s M8 bolt, so it’s rock solid. The body-side attachment uses a threaded spacer.
This is actually quite clever. I wish I’d known about it sooner—a really useful item. You can also use the wire for seat opening. The possibilities are endless depending on your creativity!
I basically always mount it for test rides. I carry it in case something unexpected happens on the road.
Since I ride decent distances each time, I prepare for various scenarios. All the bikes I work on are old, so I need to account for the unexpected. Plus, being rural, I never know when a tow truck will arrive.
It’s easy to attach and detach, capacity is expandable, and the size is just right. Once you use this, waist bags or diagonal slings feel a bit cumbersome.
Rain columns… Looking at the radar, it was moving north, but honestly, the weather has become truly frightening lately. We need to think about life while keeping various scenarios in mind.
And so, it’s all perfectly complete now (*´ω`*)
Kawasaki GPz900R Ninja (A15 Model / Post-Carb Overhaul).
Topic: Post-torrential rain test ride & rediscovering the timeless brilliance of the GPz900R. Details: Happy Sunday from the Decoboco workshop! Following the severe mid-August downpours in Chiba, a humid, lingering gloom hung in the air. To clear the mood and perform final quality checks, we took the freshly overhauled GPz900R (equipped with fully calibrated Keihin CVK34 carbs) out for a test run. One twist of the throttle blew away all mental fog: seamless low-end torque, razor-sharp yet smooth acceleration, and the iconic steel diamond frame providing rock-solid high-speed stability. Verdict: Riding a perfectly calibrated Ninja proves why this legend remains unmatched after four decades. When a machine is tuned to perfection, it doesn’t just ride better—it calibrates the rider’s soul!
