Now, this GS1200SS is a different unit from the one the other day, though the color is the same.
We need to proceed with work efficiently before Golden Week… “We have no choice but to push for a shortened inspection.” I’ll tell you more about it later…
You’re right… Oil-cooled systems are supposed to have very little oil leakage, so it’s surprising that it leaks from here.
I just replaced the gasket the other day, so I’m not sure why this is happening.
I determined it’s likely seeping from the grommet, which is common on Z-series bikes. This time I switched to a complete degreasing and liquid gasket method.
If this doesn’t work, I’ll have to cut the wiring once and enter a troublesome world…
We’re replacing the wheel bearings. (Probably the second time.)
I sometimes hear “If the wheel bearing is bad, please replace it.” The level of “bad” is difficult to judge… Nowadays, it’s rare for them to get really rough.
So anyway, after 20,000-30,000 km, I think it’s fine to replace them. The old handwriting is intense!
As I get older, I prefer to keep things simple and clean… that’s my style. Everyone, why not debut with P-TOUCH this year?
I’ll minimize the load on the wheel side during replacement.
The hub can be put directly in the oven, which is nice (*´ω`*)
Please warm the wheel slightly with a heat gun.
The bearings have double-sided seals. I’ll use low-friction oil seals.
Suzuki’s oil seals from this era are “abnormally” effective. It’s so tight that it’s hard to rotate the collar by hand.
Rather than the oil seal wearing out, the iron collar itself gets worn down. When I work on Honda bikes occasionally, they use single-lip seals that are soft and smooth, which is impressive.
So, I break in the collar with a rubber stone to the point where it can hold the bearing, which should improve rolling slightly.
The press fit on the wheel side isn’t permanent, so be careful.
If you press too hard, the press fit clearance becomes “loose,” and you might end up in tears. You can’t tell when it’s assembled, so bearing replacement requires careful attention.
I have T100 ready for the axle shaft that needs it.
I feel like slit discs might disappear if they don’t sell more. They’re heavy, weak at cleaning, and the cleaning touch is strong. The period design is extremely wonderful though.
