Makita 18V Cordless Heat Gun –
Really! What’s the Deal?
In my opinion, “it’s really great”
I use it way more than the 100V version.
Depending on the application, “most people would be satisfied” with it, don’t you think?
That wonderful cordless heat gun HG181DZ I’d like to talk about it.
It’s especially recommended for people with these uses (´ー｀)
● Sticker removal (vehicle inspections, etc.)
● For those using heat shrink tubing
● For those who need to warm plastics or rubber
In my case, I only use it for about these three things.
If these uses are “exactly what you need!” then definitely get one. It’s worth it.
“Compared to 100V heat guns” what’s it really like?
Compared to 100V, the heating speed is honestly “slow” .
The maximum temperature is also “lower” .
Well, comparing it to 100V is a bit harsh.
Wait? So the 100V is better? That’s what you might think.
100V machines have
“quick heating, continuous operation capability, and higher maximum temperatures”
so hot it can burn paper

However,
if your applications don’t require that much power,
“the cordless version wins out” I think.
What’s your use case? What do you use a heat gun for?
Thinking about this is quite important.
In my case,
“sticker removal” “heat shrink tubing” “warming rubber and plastics”
are my main work uses.
“Sticker removal”
doesn’t require that much heat or quick heating.
Honestly, just slightly hotter than a hair dryer is enough.
It’s also useful when you don’t want plastic products or surrounding areas to melt.
“Heat shrink tubing”
This is the same – cordless and being able to move freely is actually better.
“Warming rubber and plastics”
This is used quite rarely.
It’s needed when rubber or plastic hardens and won’t fit.
Even then, too much heat isn’t really a problem.
To be honest,
“I always use it at maximum power”
I always use it at heat level 6 and fan speed 2
In other words, maxed out and fixed.
When it’s too hot, “just holding it a bit further away gives you the right temperature” you know.
Who is the 100V heat gun suited for??
People who work in a fixed location , those who need high temperatures close to 600 degrees ,
those who need quick heating, those who use it continuously
That’s truly professional use.
Fast and hot – that’s 100V .
I used 100V too.
But with my use case, I move around a lot “the cord is in the way”
especially I don’t need quick heating or high heat so I switched to cordless.
Who is the cordless suited for?
People who don’t heat things to the point of burning, people who don’t run it continuously for long periods,
people who turn the power on and off frequently, people with diverse work situations
For sticker removal or heat shrink tubing
just slightly hotter than a hair dryer is enough .
If you don’t leave the power on while bending or warming something,
cordless is sufficient.
Heat shrink a little, then five minutes later turn it on and off and repeat the same way.
Highly recommended (´ー｀)
For those going back and forth on the right and left of a motorcycle
working inside a vehicle or
working in a garage or warehouse or
not needing a cord or cord reel is a huge advantage.
How to choose?
First, think about what you want to heat.
The cordless advantages are huge.
Most likely heat shrink tubing or sticker removal is what you’ll be doing.
With this kind of work, too much heat causes problems . Burning or melting is not what you want.
Even when removing stickers stuck to plastic, no matter how much temperature control you have, you need to be careful . With cordless, even at maximum it’s around 550 degrees so you can work with peace of mind.
*I don’t think it actually gets that hot…
Taking the cordless in and out is really easy.
With 100V machines, you have to let the unit cool completely
or you’ll melt the power cord and storage case.

but choosing specs that match your needs is actually difficult and tricky.
Bigger doesn’t cover everything. “Big is big, small is small”
Just being cordless increases convenience incredibly.
