Sad news about accidents really hits home…
All they ever cover is this kind of news… damn it.
I got to thinking vaguely about why this happens.
Did accidents where riders can’t turn happen back in the day too?
I think accidents where riders can’t turn probably did happen back then.
Regardless of age or gender.
But I suspect they were just handled as local or regional accidents, big or small, and never made it to the major media.
Is smartphones a factor too?
I have a smartphone mounted too (for recording and checking video), and even a fraction of a second of my attention gets pulled away.
If you’re looking at navigation because you’re lost, that could easily become one or two seconds.
Once you’re talking seconds, the danger goes up dramatically, so you really need to be aware of how risky it is.
Since the 2000s, motorcycles have gotten really good.

Even the stock brakes slow you down so well. It’s so stable you can’t feel the speed.
At first glance it looks kind of plain.
If it had over 150 horsepower, a quickshifter, ABS, traction control, launch control and all that, you’d be blown away.
It’s like the difference between a rotary phone and a smartphone…
High performance you can fool yourself with
Hmm? Did my skills finally start to show? That kind of thinking could be dangerous.
You might be tingling with excitement while already near the limit without realizing it.
You really never know what’s going to happen on public roads.
Trees fall, kerosene, diesel, engine oil spill all the time.
When all those astronomical odds line up just right, it can lead to a serious accident.
You really don’t understand until you get hurt.
Some people get taken out in one shot, so there’s no telling.
But you know, people just don’t learn.
I had a pretty big accident myself back in the day—or maybe a crash?
This time I was told “if this doesn’t stick, your leg’s getting cut off” and yeah, I realized it really is dangerous…
and I reformed.
When you weigh it up, there’s not much to gain … you know?
I want to tell people before they have a big accident, but the message doesn’t get through.
It’s like those videos they show at the licensing center. “That situation would never happen, right?” And then
three seconds later you can see your own future… if only people could see that far ahead.
It’s such a fun ride, so I hope people can keep enjoying it safely and sustainably (*’ω’*)
