To be honest, I don’t usually spend my days thinking about ghosts or spirits or anything like that… but…
At our shop.
As I’m leaving, when I gaze vaguely at the exit, I see what looks like an old man sitting in the passenger seat of our Town Ace parked out front. Every day…
I don’t really pay attention to it (‘ω’)ノ
When I look directly at it, I can’t see it. It must be something my brain is creating…
Probably, definitely. HEY Kit, Hi! Michael. (Like Knight Rider…)
And then…
Sometimes… when I look at a motorcycle I’m holding in a quiet shop at night…
Don’t you find it scary…? Or not? For you motorcycle shop folks?
I don’t really believe in ghosts or spirits.
But doing this work, I realize how incredibly strong and precious the owner’s feelings and attachment to their motorcycle are—it’s beyond words.
I think and feel this deeply, every time, every week.
Thinking about it the other way… the previous owner had those same feelings, and the one before them, and the one before that, and already five owners back, those feelings remained and they passed away, and if someone were to cut corners, they’d be punished… That’s the kind of thing I think about.
It’s a machine (an object), so it’s not alive, but before and after work I find myself thinking, “Please, don’t break down, no trouble at all.”
Well, if thinking about something improves performance, that’s great, but “mind over matter?” “Illness comes from the mind?” Maybe the final essence is to sprinkle a little positive feeling on it.
