The parts arrived, so we got partway through—
Today I was going in and out.
Basically, the piston and seal set is a good deal.
Since it’s not a part you disassemble that often, it’s nice to get a fresh piston too.
Always inspect the seals. Once I actually got a wrong seal in the package.
Since it was already opened, I couldn’t return it—had to buy another one. It’s a subtle pain.
It’s tedious, but a thorough cleaning gives you peace of mind.
CCI MR20 Metal Rubber
I usually brush it on, but while organizing I found some new, unopened deadstock, so I’m using that.
It goes in so smoothly—”click!”—you’d think my caliper OH skills had improved!
Apply it generously in the grooves and on the seals before assembly, and the operation becomes really smooth.
Grease-based products degrade over time, so I don’t use them much.
Clean small parts feel good too.
For a matte black caliper,
AZ (A-Z) C1-009 Long-Term Rust Prevention Spray Super Lube 420ml, Salt Spray Test 96 Hours Grade A spray and wipe off gives a nice finish.
It also boosts rust protection.
Even the small details got Gun Coat and tightened up!
It feels good to assemble when everything is clean.
