③GSX-R750 GR71 Inspection, Oil-Cooled Maintenance, Self-Point Maintenance

Let’s replace the ground wire once in a while. It won’t have a dramatic effect, but it’s definitely not a bad idea. I think this should come before doing any grounding upgrades.

We thoroughly clean the chain and sprockets, then carefully oil them.

Remove the dust boots and give them a good oiling.

I personally apply it to my hand and wipe down the whole thing.

The area above the stem rusts even more easily, so I apply rust preventative oil to my hand and wipe that down too.

The rust preventative oil I’ve been using lately seems to dry or form a protective film. That’s why my Z’s tank doesn’t rust.

You should wipe down the throttle cable once in a while and then oil it. This might be the first time ever for this bike.

Don’t think that this thick wire goes to the harness—it’s basically just one thin wire, maybe 2 square millimeters.

It’s surprising in a way.

Clean the sidestand from the inside once in a while too.

It moves smoothly and looks clean—no issues there.

I’ll replace the pin and clip this time.

The front looks clean too. A light wash and we’re done.

After washing, apply rust preventative oil to the surface and polish it. Keeping it moisturized is good for the exterior too. I think the fittings resist rust well.

Don’t just think “it’s original, so whatever.” Chant “monoblock, monoblock” to yourself as you work, and you might put more heart into it.

The fluid was clean. We use Golden Cruiser.

A question about dealing with some rust.

A full restoration would be a lot of work, so I just spot-treated the areas that looked bad.

Applied a light coat.

By the way, here’s what the old ground wire looked like. You can see it wasn’t very smooth.

After that, we do the inspection and we’re finished.
