For electrical peace of mind, I decided to install a PAMS MOSFET regulator.
I always use this universal-type version.
It’s pretty big—the surface area makes it easy for heat to dissipate.
I add and subtract dimensions to get the size I need, then cut the plate with a shear.
I punch the radius with a die. Shears and hydraulic presses sure are convenient.
Whether you have the right tools or not makes a huge difference in speed and finish quality.
Serviceability is everything. I’d skip any part changes or customizations where you’d later think, “Ugh, taking this off is a pain.” Better to avoid that.
If the person who did the work takes responsibility all the way through, I think that’s okay.
At my age, the time and effort of squeezing a wrench into a tight spot feels really tedious.
So I welded the bracket like this.
I used the space efficiently. This location is where you’d find it on a Hayabusa and similar bikes.
On an R1, it’s tucked deep in the ram-air duct. Cooling it better would be nicer, I suppose.
Work has piled up and I haven’t gotten to the wiring yet.
