We investigated why the voltage was dropping.
We confirmed the generated voltage and checked the difference in usage conditions like the headlight.
The discharge is heavy. After just two days at full charge, it drops by 0.4A. Over two weeks, it dropped nearly 1V.
It seems the USB charger we installed with good intentions, set to run constantly, became the culprit.
Combined with that, there’s a tendency for voltage to drop at idle with the headlight on. Due to the age of the bike, an on/off switch is installed. We confirmed that it stays stable when it’s off at traffic lights.
We tested various regulators from our stock, but the currently installed one has no issues, so we’ll keep using it. If we need to address this further, we’ll consider it next time. Besides, we have nowhere to store anything anyway.
We suspected it might be a high-wattage bulb, but that wasn’t the case. It’s a coated bulb.
It’s best not to buy them if you can help it. As you can see in the image, the coating peels and light output definitely decreases.
Reliable Stanley bulbs. Actually, we’ve tested various cheap and brand-name bulbs on the same vehicle before.
Cheap ones deliver light output matching their price. Brand-name ones showed stable quality. Looking at the results, we basically never use the former.
The heat is intense, so the lens inside gets a bit cloudy. But it cleans up easily with neutral detergent and a brush.
We’re hoping this makes it even 3% brighter, and it definitely looks more upscale now.
