The mornings and evenings have gotten quite chilly.

The temperature has finally become nice enough to think about riding a bike.
With the cooler weather, we’ve been getting quite a few more visitors.
The work doesn’t feel as rushed as it did in Tokyo,
so I’m planning to take things at a steady pace.

Brembo seals are best soaked in brake fluid

There’s nothing less reliable than Brembo oil seals.
If you want to be absolutely certain, it’s better to soak the seals in brake fluid first.

Assembling them as-is dramatically reduces the chance of leaks.

It’s good to keep the grease that comes with Brembo.
Using this grease for assembly should ensure it works without any issues.

Always do a quality check accounting for human error.

RK brake pad lineup is being discontinued rapidly

The front is still available,
but the rear sintered metal pads have been discontinued.

Front brake pads are increasingly being discontinued,
so don’t assume brake pads will always be available.
The mainstream is radial mount these days.

Harley also uses DOT4! Gaskets have rubber lip seals

While we don’t want leaks to happen, this gasket can be quite useful in places where absolute reliability is needed.

It’s DOT4 compatible and has rubber in the center for even better leak prevention.
When you absolutely have to put a gasket
in a brake fitting union,

sometimes the gasket position has a slight narrowing that prevents the gasket center from seating properly, which can cause minor seeping.
That’s a bit annoying, isn’t it?
With this gasket, it seats firmly in the right position and feels great to tighten.

Replacing the chain and sprockets

Sorry, I ended up ordering from a different supplier again.
But I guess the sales numbers don’t change anyway, so it probably doesn’t matter?

Sunstar’s numbers probably won’t improve either…

The wear was quite advanced.
I’m really glad we caught it at just the right time.

Make sure the counter shaft threads are clean before assembly.
The micro-capsule thread locker
that comes pre-applied to the lock nut can be removed before assembly if you prefer.
With that thread locker on, you can’t tell how tight you’re actually tightening it.
It’s so stiff that you might reach torque before you realize it.
To eliminate that ambiguity, removing it and using liquid thread locker is the way to go.

When the chain, sprockets, and lock nut are all clean, it feels really satisfying.
We can confidently continue putting more miles on it.

That’s how the front brake is complete.

There are still some small details to take care of, so I’ll continue with the work.
