My shoulder has finally been rotating smoothly lately. I think I can make it through the summer now!
To put it in perspective, it’s like going from F1.4 to F5.6? Sorry, that probably doesn’t make sense.
So here’s what’s left from dinner last night—
It’s a bit hard to see, but the mounting surface is raised (bulging)…
The back side isn’t finished flat from the casting, so you can’t tell by thickness alone,
but it’s clearly abnormal.
The surface is obviously not flat…and it looks like it was hand-filed all over.
I can’t just leave it alone, so…
I’m going to split it…
What was going on? I can’t even imagine… Yeah.
I’ll surface it flat using the split as my reference.
I ended up having to surface it on our crappy milling machine…
Since it’s a used machine, the bed has both good spots and bad spots,
and I’m struggling with where to clamp it and how little feed I can use.
A milling machine with a digital readout…I can’t buy one. Gotta hold back.
Anyway, the high spots are about 2 mm and the low spots are around 1.5 mm.
