Sumina Municipal Parking Lot is free for the first hour
It’s about 40 minutes by car from my place, roughly 30 km. Since it’s basically empty, you can access it very comfortably.
In terms of time, it’s about the same as from Meguro to Jonan Island Seaside Park. Of course, in Chiba you can cover about twice the distance in the same amount of time.
When I got out of the car, what I thought was “It’s not cool at all” Of course, since it’s only been one day, I can’t really say for sure, but “Katsuura = cool” seems like quite an exaggerated statement, doesn’t it? It probably depends on the location, and I imagine elevated areas with good ventilation would feel cooler. I’m not so sure about it being generally cool overall.

I quickly realized it was a Town Ace… That refined front end is still so cool.
Setting that aside, the graffiti and rust have a certain charming quality to them. If you were driving this in Tokyo, it would definitely be in the stylish category…
Eating lunch in Katsuura
Here’s a seafood rice bowl for 2,500 yen before tax. It’s a self-serve style seafood bowl where you add the toppings yourself. I was surprised to see so many people lined up on a weekday like this. I got in without waiting since I arrived early, but when I left there were over a dozen people waiting.
With this kind of traffic, they must be making quite a bit of revenue. I have a feeling their annual sales are easily in the 50 million to 100 million yen range… I really felt what it means to be a winning restaurant business.
Both the 1st and 2nd floors have plenty of seating, but I think it would be quite tough on weekends and holidays. The restaurant has a parking lot, but Sumina Municipal Parking Lot is probably the safer bet to walk from.
Since it’s right in front of the fishing port, street parking is probably fine, but you need to be careful not to get in the way of the workers.
I was a bit shocked by how clear the ocean water is!
Living in Tokyo, you only ever see sewage-like ocean water. It was cleaner than expected, and being a weekday with fewer visitors is also really appealing.
The access from Tokyo is great and it’s really wonderful. I’m truly impressed by Chiba.
Anyway, I’m going to make a loop and visit some roadside stations
After going around, I finally visited Aisaihata. Since it was getting late, the selection of vegetables was a bit limited. Hunter’s Workshop Drive-In I had some expectations, but… Well, it’s not easy.
In the end, Starbucks is the strongest
Starbucks customer service really feels amazing. Both the guys and girls manage to serve customers with a smile and care every single day, and I really felt that.
Is that a reflection of their high motivation?
I was a bit moved seeing green bananas. The joy of growing them? You can enjoy watching them ripen over time.
