Unexpected expenses that weren’t in the original plan keep happening. Putting waste oil in = drum cans seems to be the standard. It doesn’t cost much and it’s sturdy. I was planning to just keep using the 60 L drum can I’d been using for waste oil.
But at this factory, if you leave it outside, water accumulates. Water collects in the drum can itself, and also on the casters it’s sitting on… I was a bit torn about putting a cover on it… But I decided to take action and try out that project I’d been thinking about.
As you can see in the image, kerosene containers have quite a bit of capacity and a pretty slim shape. So I did some research and bought one.
Due to the shape of the drum can, it’s unavoidable that it gets dented and water accumulates. For example, when it’s light it’s fine, but when it gets close to full it’s too heavy to tilt. And it’s awkward to just suck it out.
These little things become minor stresses, you know? I want to reduce minor stresses as much as possible and focus efficiently on work That’s what I think. Once work starts, it’s hard to do things like this. I think it’s important to plan everything out from the beginning.
So I’m planning things out every day while imagining how it’ll be.
I noticed it because it rained while I was organizing, so in a way it was good. The scrap metal dealer will buy the drum can, so I’m planning to take it to them early next week.

I carefully considered the height and capacity many times before deciding on this size. There are larger ones like 200 L, “but they need to be securely fixed or they’re dangerous.” And I need to arrange the layout so the waste oil collection truck doesn’t have trouble during pickup.
Larger sizes also get taller. Both when I dispose of the waste oil and when the collector picks it up, the work would be a bit harder. Also, I don’t want to drill holes in the concrete, so I decided a size that can be handled with weight blocks is best.
I had some blocks left over from when I was lifting the kitchen at the previous shop, so I’m planning to use them.
When you put iron directly on the ground like this, rust stains end up on the concrete… You need to keep things elevated as much as possible or they become a breeding ground for insects.

So with just 4 bolts and nuts, it assembles easily. If you tighten it after standing it upright at the end, it should be stable. The exterior isn’t raw but finished in silver paint.
The short-leg model I bought this time is also really nice.
SUS430 is a type of stainless steel, specifically classified as “ferritic stainless steel.” Its main characteristics are as follows.

Because it doesn’t contain nickel, it’s cheaper compared to austenitic stainless steels (like SUS304) that do contain nickel.
4. Workability and weldability
Unlike austenitic stainless steel, work hardening doesn’t occur as easily, so it’s relatively easy to work with. You can increase hardness appropriately through cold working.
Because thermal expansion is small, distortion from heat is minimal, and it has the advantage of being easy to weld.
However, it cannot be hardened through heat treatment.

Building interiors, household appliances, home appliance parts, kitchen equipment, automotive parts, water heaters, decorative items, and many other fields.

It costs around 35,000 yen, but it might become popular as a somewhat stylish waste oil container??
The oil level gauge and large opening are the key points (*´ω｀*)
With engine oil being thick, I’m not sure if it’ll work accurately… But I think it should be fine since it’s probably a float-type gauge.
The filling opening is also large, so the waste oil collector’s straw will definitely fit.
Stylish and slim in appearance, it doesn’t look like a waste oil container!
It’s a small thing, but it really tightens up the appearance of the shop! It doesn’t take up much space, and since it’s elevated, it’s easy to clean underneath.
After all, when we were using a drum can for waste oil, fallen leaves would accumulate around it. Basically, if you keep things elevated and make the environment easy to clean, you can keep your factory or shop looking nice. Just improving small efficiencies boosts motivation, so try it out!
