Today we have a Bandit 1200 Final that came all the way from Kashiwa
for the oil-cooled maintenance campaign—a same-day job.
As expected, we’ll be working right in front of the owner, explaining things as we go.
It ends up taking quite a bit longer than you’d think.
The mileage is 23,000 kilometers—pretty moderate.
We try to remove the head cover right away, but it won’t budge!
“This is the first time I’ve seen this,” we say as we work it back and forth.
Apparently it’s been over 150 degrees more than a few times, so that might be why.
The cam shows no seizing and is in good shape, and the cam chain has no slack—also good!
The sync was slightly off and the throttle position sensor opening was uneven.
After adjustment, it became perfectly smooth.
The owner must ride gently—the engine damper showed so little wear it’s still reusable.
I think it’s running quite a bit smoother now!
The Bandit really is a handful.
