The parts arrived and we’re all done.
The mileage is 23,000 kilometers—this is where the oil-cooled engine really starts to show its character.
No cam scuffing,
and the cam and rocker clearances are consistent across all cylinders—everything looks good.
*If valve adjustment doesn’t quiet down that ticking noise, it’s often caused by wear between the cam and rocker.
Even if you check the valve clearance carefully, the noise sometimes won’t go away, so after adjusting the valve clearance (on oil-cooled bikes, that’s the valve-to-rocker clearance),
you should also check the cam-to-rocker clearance to see the condition of each cylinder.
The cam chain slack was also in good shape.
The engine damper is already getting loose. It doesn’t look like it’ll last another 20,000 kilometers.
It wears easily not just from vibration but also from the intense heat.
We also checked the generator damper and nut.
The damper doesn’t really need replacing, but since it’s part of the service package, we replaced it.
The generator nut sometimes comes loose, and the damper area wears, making the bike noisy.
It’s rare, but it happens, so it’s definitely worth checking.
The carburetor synchronization was slightly off.
Synchronization drifting is normal, so don’t worry too much about it.
*If it drifts, you just adjust it.
After that, we checked the cables and chain that were requested, took it for a test ride, and we’re done.
I hope the rain stops soon.
