CB750F Flat-Rate Motorcycle Inspection and Charging Issues

Finally complete!
When it’s done, you find yourself thinking, “Ah, I see…”

Here’s the regulator-rectifier, folks★
There are quite a few wires, aren’t there? Maybe it’s a bit unusual?
I really wish I had the wiring diagram.

Boom! All good.
CB-F charging system configuration
• Stator coil → All three phases OK (resistance value, no burn marks, no contact issues)
• Magnet (electromagnet) → Won’t hold a magnetic charge even when powered?
• Magnet brush → Power present, voltage OK
• Regulator rectifier → Hold off for now
1) If the magnet isn’t working, it won’t generate power, so rewinding fixed it.
But when I assembled it, “Hmm? It’s still not generating power? Right?” Not true.
Chaos! Total chaos!
2) Back to basics. Is the brush getting power? Wait, what?
It comes and goes… sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t.
This brush power supply comes from the regulator-rectifier.
In the end, I confirmed the magnet’s magnetic force using an external power source.
Since there’s nothing left but the regulator-rectifier, that’s the culprit. Problem solved.
Looking back now… maybe?
The magnet might have been fine all along… or so I thought.
Since we upgraded it anyway, all good.
The right way from the start is to verify everything with an external power source.
The end.
