Let’s clean up the wiring around the lights.
Looking at the harness, you can really feel the age of the design. The wire gauges are unnecessarily thick, and the layout seems quite forced.
It’s hard to make it look clean no matter what you do. Even though it’s stock, it’s loaded with connectors, so there’s a risk of plugging things in wrong or having them come loose.
The wiring and insulation we removed this time. We also mounted the headlight relay outside the light case instead of inside it.
The relay doesn’t need to be plugged into the H4 connector; as long as turning on the light switch picks up 12V and the HI/LOW switches work, it’s fine.
With off-the-shelf products, the connector ends up being permanently attached and takes up a lot of space, but that can’t be helped.
This amount of wiring is very clean. Forcing a headlight installation is scary because it could cause problems out on the road.
Even with all the contents installed, it looks like this. The light case fits nicely when you use the outer perimeter.
For optional power like ETC, if you can find a location close to where you’re mounting it and where you can run 12V and ground in parallel, you can route everything very cleanly.
If the wiring layout ends up in a V or Y shape, or if the ground is co-bolted with an M6, the finish can be a bit disappointing, so we’re careful about that.
With a connector that can be attached and detached, and usable as a power source for other things in the future, I think it works out really well.
The ETC antenna goes on the right side. It should work with the stock meter too.
The lamp is on the left side. We welded both to the light bracket and mounted them.
I just realized the navigation unit has an antenna, so I co-bolted it to the adapter I made the other day.
I’m keeping the navigation unit grouped together so that when I remove it, I can do it all at once.
After that, I just need to install a remote control switch and earphones and run the power, and it might be done.
I’m getting used to this look. Didn’t finish today…
