GSX1100SR Yoshimura Step KIT Short Offset Stem installation and more work requested.

We’ll handle the stem replacement through Front maintenance (Stem+).

The condition looked pretty good.

There are some serious burrs on the frame side… Was the Katana always like this?

We’ll replace the races and verify by visual inspection.

It’s turned black somewhere along the way, but we’ll set that aside for now…
The grease is our usual NC100 Hyper Grease.

We want to determine the handlebar lock position and stopper. Since pressing in the bearing is a hassle, we’ll make a dummy bearing from Delrin to check the fit.

We’ll cut a groove with a number 0 end mill. It’s a small mill, but it makes all the difference.

It cut beautifully. If we mess up, there’s no going back, so we’re always nervous during this work. Post-processing of parts is charged as “risk + labor”.

The material still had its skin on it, so we sanded it smooth to make it uniform, then sent it to Coken for black anodizing.

It came back, so we’ll install it. As expected, they didn’t dye the press-fit areas. We’re grateful for outsourcing partners who do this kind of thing without being asked.
The handlebar stopper tip also gets an R finish and sits flush with the surface.

We’ll go with steel for peace of mind even if it bends. Lately, “electroless nickel” bolts are commonly available, which is a lifesaver.

We used an aluminum stem nut from the GS1200SS. It’s a genuine part, and the lightening is nicely done—very good.

The surface finish can be selected by part number. Of course, we use silver.

We’ll also change the fork oil. It seems like it hasn’t been changed in quite a while—the whole place smells like the old days.

We’ll bleed the air with a vacuum pump, and the front end is complete.
It sounds so simple when you write it down…
