First, I’ll start working from the rear. Getting this far apart takes about 30 minutes. This is a Suzuki with excellent serviceability.
It’s got a pretty good layer of grime on it. Let’s clean it up while we’re at it.
There are signs of something pretty scary happening here. I’ll check it out.
Vehicles from the 20th century tend to have good oil content. The sleeve wear was minimal and in good shape.
This Suzuki OEM puller is now discontinued, but I’ll use it to remove the pivot. For the GSX-R1100, this was the specified tool in the manual. Later, when you get to the 1200 series and beyond, a sliding hammer becomes the designated tool.
But using a sliding hammer solo is pretty tough. Securing the swingarm is also a hassle. I think pulling with a puller is the smarter approach.
If you find one on auction sites, you should grab it.
I’m trying to keep the work efficient. While I had the swingarm out, I warmed up the linkage. Disassembling and removing the bearings took about an hour.
