The storage compartment is very small, so we wanted to gain a bit more space.
The hassle is having to insert and remove the card every time the key is turned.
After much deliberation, we decided to mount it on the left side by process of elimination. It’s best to align it with the direction of the side stand.
First and foremost, it must not fall off. We strip the threads near the base and leave them free.
We tap threads into the mounting plate.
By threading it through this way, we add one layer of insurance.
We re-lock it with a weld nut and lock nut. This way it won’t loosen or come off.
We set it so it only opens enough to insert and remove the card.
The opening and closing action uses friction damping. Without a stopper, if it swings open toward the swingarm and makes contact, that would be a problem. Better safe than sorry.
Being the worrier I am, I’m still nervous, so we secure it with a band to prevent it from opening.
That’s how it turned out. One point is co-torqued to the frame on both sides, plus secured with cable ties.
Still nervous, so we verified with a ruler. I don’t think it will make contact.
This should make inserting and removing it much easier. (Though it might get dirty from chain oil.)
