GPZ900R Inspection, Deco-mainte, Cooling system maintenance, Oil change, and more

The GPZ900R had a long production run, didn’t it? (84–03, up to A16)
When you think about it that way, the ZRX also had a long production life (97–16, up to the Daeg).

The base is similar too… Products with long breath build loyal users and deep affection!

There’s something nice about things with lots of compatibility.

This is a clean GPZ900R job. It’s reassuring and much appreciated.

I’ll check the tire manufacturing date.

Sometimes even with tread, you know. It’s something to reconsider during maintenance.

The rear looks like it might be a carryover? Somewhat wider at 5.5-17.

Everything is so clean everywhere—I’m really grateful.

On the other hand, each part is a cauldron of tension, so to speak.

If you keep something like this tucked away, your peace of mind might go way up.

The front axle shaft diameter feels a bit flimsy, you know—it really brings home the era.
I’ve checked it.

I’ll check the tire and wheel runout.

For example, if the handling feels off? Air pressure is important, but sometimes the tire bead isn’t seated properly and you get a wobble.

One by one, check one-two.

The wheel bearings are in good shape—reassuring.

Custom bike common occurrence.
There’s no manual, so we proceed by understanding the current state.

Labeling it helps with peace of mind for next time.

It’s built with style throughout. I really love that spirit of keeping things from sticking out.

The calipers are in excellent condition too—reassuring.

Brake discs get a little sharper when you check and clean them during maintenance like this.

They don’t wear evenly, but it’s good to know the general picture.

I’ll clean and lubricate the fork. Those Ohlins dust seals are super tight.
Let’s clean and lubricate the throttle cable too.

I’ll clean the air filter and the inside of the box.

The spark plugs are clean, so we’ll reuse them.
Only the #4 plug cap was rusty and loose, so I’ll replace that.

It’s good to pull and reseat the fuses during inspection.

I’ll clean the contacts and reassemble. But honestly, they’re so cheap these days that I’m thinking we might as well replace them.

Currently on hold.
