GX750 Inspection, Deco-mainte, Sidestand Extension, and More

Since this unit is old and I haven’t worked on it before, it’s taking quite a bit longer than expected.

It’s important to double-check the manual just to be safe.
You don’t want to break or snap anything.

The discs from this era are really thick, I have to say.

I ordered gear oil for the change, but one bottle isn’t enough. (front and rear)

With the wheel off, I’ll start with the harder side to access (front).

I didn’t expect the drain plug to be in this location.

Front

Rear

Gear oil that’s hard to pour in goes in easily with a syringe.

I made labels to stick on so it’ll be easier next time.

I replaced the rear pads with sintered metal.

Let’s check the rear wheel. No issues there.

The axle shaft is also in good condition.

I gave it a light polish. Even a little bit brings it back to life.

Well, this is definitely a classic! For now, I’ll put on a used cap.

Synchronization and PS adjustment improved idle stability.

I also replaced the cap.

I replaced the fluid with Golden Cruiser DOT 4.
There’s some concern about the master cylinder area.

The tachometer gear is split-type. I can’t remove it with the tools I have on hand, so I’ll leave it for now.
I also lubricated the tachometer cable.

The charging voltage is solid, so we’re good.

Clean the key and cap once in a while.

The air filter was already replaced and looked clean.

I made a license plate holder from scrap material.
The tank tilting to the left is a bit better with cable ties, so let’s see how it goes.

After the rear gear oil change, we’ll be done.
