Why does this year-end restlessness feel like approaching the finish line, only to start over and feel a subtle letdown—that cyclical, repetitive feeling?
It’s something we all wrestle with every day, isn’t it?
What if we tried to stick with just one thing for a whole year?
This daily column called [Thoughts] at 8 a.m. is part of that effort.
Writing these pieces in advance every morning is humble work, but I’m putting in the effort and chipping away at it steadily.
Whenever an idea strikes me, I jot it down on my iPhone.
This year I’ve been making an effort to sort my trash properly.
Just separating paper from plastic reduces the volume of garbage significantly, and the trash bags actually look neater inside.
I was struck when I heard that you can tell a lot about a person’s character by how they dispose of their trash.
Speaking of appliances I’ve recommended for years, there’s the food waste disposer.

We use this one at home. It’s our second unit, and despite many years passing without a model change, it seems to have gone up in price…
I wish it would get a more stylish redesign.
If you’ve never used one, it might seem like a wasteful gadget, but once you try it, you’ll realize it’s an indispensable appliance.
First, food waste completely disappears—vegetables, fish, meat, bones, everything.
In about an hour, it dries to a crisp with a pleasant, toasted aroma, and the volume shrinks dramatically.
Lately I’ve been thinking about eye health.
I barely use my smartphone, but my computer runs for quite a long time. I’ve always had dry eyes, and wearing contact lenses makes them even drier.
Around late September this year, I started feeling unusually dry, and even after visiting an ophthalmologist, I was just prescribed eye drops.
They work while I’m using them, but the dryness returns when I stop.
I began wondering if this chronic dryness and continuous eye drops were really helping, or if this was just treating the symptom… and then I came across a certain book.
Dry eye can be cured by your own effort
Whether this works varies from person to person, but it dramatically improved my condition.
Modern people don’t blink enough, and the muscles around the eyes weaken.
With eye exercises, massage, and keeping the area warm, I feel much better. Eye fatigue used to make me drowsy and kill my concentration, but now I can approach work with high energy.
Though I do have trouble finishing tasks in this energized state…
There are many other things I could mention, but when I think about maintaining everything consistently, there’s never enough time. To make time, I either need to boost efficiency or cut back on something.
What I think now is that reducing work is the best move.
It’s a puzzle, but maybe that’s the best play… Let’s go strong through this pandemic! (‘ω’)ノ
