Converting an Inazuma 1200 to an Oil-cooled Katana (GSX1200S)

One chance away. Can’t read just one tile if there’s a winning combination?

I was doing some tedious detailed work today. It’s looking almost done (*^-^*)

I’ll adjust the steering angle to the limit where the handlebar lock engages.

Handlebar locks are surprisingly common on custom bikes, even bicycle locks.

I made and installed 3mm spacers on one side, four of them.
This fender is pretty warped.

Let’s get a proper one next time.

I made a seat frame-side stopper.
I made it so the fasteners follow the frame and stay hidden (*^-^*)

This is how it’ll finish up….

I prefer to crimp fasteners with a punch.
Kamekura Powerman Junior New ones are pricey, so it’s worth checking Yahoo Auctions once in a while.

A hydraulic punch is handy to have around.
You can drill large holes in finished or existing parts, and even press bearings.
If you think creatively, you can easily drill tank modifications too.

That’s how I did it.

I’m using Z seat dampers for the four rear ones.
I crimped these with Megmix (taking the easy way out)

Next I’ll make the seat tip tab.
It’s just a stopper to keep it from lifting and falling off, so it doesn’t need to be fancy.

I’ll wrap the usual OEM trim around it and it should fit nicely.

I was a bit worried about the tank base shape, so I reinforced it with a round rod.

It shouldn’t deform even if you step on it. (Peace of mind)

The storage box fit right in (lucky!) The under-seat area is really simple, isn’t it?
*If you’re an oil-cooled Katana owner, you’d know…

I’ll touch up the paint where I stripped it when I get a chance.
