I found a moment to polish the banana pipe.
I grind away the damaged areas pretty thoroughly to make sure there are no impurities.
If they get buried during welding, it becomes a pain later.
Despite its age, the weldability is outstanding, which was reassuring.
If I don’t build up too much material, there’s less grinding to do, which makes the work easier.
It’s dusty and definitely a job I really dislike.
I need to focus on smoothing the welded buildup while being careful not to reduce the base material.
I thought about skipping the finishing on the tip, but I decided to go ahead and finish it anyway. After all, it’s a historical artifact.
By the way, I don’t do this kind of repair work professionally.
I’d recommend contacting a metal fabrication shop or custom shop.
