So what’s this problem really about?
I wondered the same thing.

The 2022 problem and the 2030 problem —there are two of them.
Until 2030, “probably” the old standard will still work, they say.
This applies to both cars and motorcycles.

What’s the rumor about the 2022 ETC problem where it stops working?

First,
the “spurious emissions standard” and “security standard”
underwent changes in two regulations.

“Spurious emissions standard”
Change: Some models that received technical certification before 2007
“spurious emissions standard” changes
violate the Radio Law, so “you can’t use them.”

Basically it becomes a Radio Law violation, but the ETC radio band hasn’t changed.

“Security standard”

So? What happens? I still don’t get it.

Currently, the ETC radio band hasn’t changed, so
older models “basically work for now.”

If you use them:

If you’re choosing an ETC unit, a newer one with the “security standard” would be better.

It might get smaller, or there might be major changes.
