So let me break it down roughly and concisely
Like USB? The bigger the number, the better the advantage?
It kind of feels like a higher version number means better benefits, doesn’t it?
I’m also looking into this ETC2.0 for the first time.
I don’t use the highway that much anyway.
That was my thinking.
Benefit: “Temporary exit and re-entry” possible
Usage conditions are “limited” so please note
- ① ETC2.0-equipped vehicles are eligible. (Please use the same ETC card for the entire trip)
- ② The toll discount applies only when re-entering at a designated interchange or smart interchange and traveling in the forward direction.
- ③ You must stop at a designated rest area. (Please enter the rest area from the national highway side)
- ④ After exiting the designated interchange or smart interchange, re-enter from the same interchange within 2 hours.

How much savings? Probably just a few hundred yen.

ETC2.0 can provide information over a wide range of up to 1,000 km of road extension.
Wow, that’s amazing!
But unfortunately, it can’t match the detailed information from a smartphone.
The difference in data volume is huge, and smartphones can also get information from both directions.
“2.0 is a decent choice” but not worth replacing for
ETC is a toll collection system, nothing more and nothing less.
That’s how I feel about it now.
