What? Up to 15W wireless charging! Waterproof IP67! Unique 12-24V direct input connection QUADLOCK (qlh-hw-wch-2)—I decided to go with it.

Why would I want to add USB power? That’s been a mystery to me for a long time.
Back when I had a CB1100, I did add USB,
but I realized plugging and unplugging was a hassle, so I switched to being a mobile battery person.

Time passes…
If it’s wireless and versatile enough to work with everything,
maybe it’s worth choosing? That’s what I thought.

I pondered it from my own perspective.

By the way, the price does pack quite a punch.
QUADLOCK comes in two types: motorcycle and marine bike.

Motorcycle version
5W, 7.5W, 10W charging (supports fast charging), IP66-compliant waterproof rating, input from a 5V/2A USB-A port is recommended

Marine bike version
Output: 5W / 7.5W / 10W / 15W (iPhone charges at a maximum of 7.5W; iOS 17.1 iPhone 15 charges at a maximum of 5W)
You might think iPhone maxes out at 7.5W, but that’s more than enough. IP67

The marine bike version has higher maximum charging watts and better waterproof capability.

What does IP mean anyway?

Ingress Protection (IP) rating
The enclosure of electrical machinery
is evaluated using an international standard (IEC 60529) to assess its protection against or sealing from foreign objects, water, dust, and unintended contact.

I just realized something amazing! 12-24V direct input means…

Above is the motorcycle version.
USB-C connection is required = you need a USB port, right?
QUADLOCK wireless unit → USB-C → USB port (5V) → connected to D-UNIT and so on.

Surprisingly, the USB port needs a converter body to change to 5V, so it’s a bit bulky and hard to store.

Above is the marine bike version

D-UNIT or the bike’s main 12V and ground connection, and you’re done.
QUADLOCK wireless unit → connected to D-UNIT and so on.

I’m guessing the output adjustment happens inside this same-sized unit.
With no unnecessary connections, the terminals won’t wear out either.
Cut the QUADLOCK unit around 100–150mm from the end
and finish with a 110 connector, and you can easily move it to other bikes.

You can lay out the wireless charger super simply and reuse it on other bikes.
It seems a bit too niche and not selling well, but… personally, I’m absolutely going with the marine bike version
If your only use for a USB port is your phone, this is definitely the one for you.
