How are you all spending Golden Week? This year, if you slot in paid time off strategically, you can easily get around eleven consecutive days off. But the frustrating reality is that when everyone across Japan is on holiday, everywhere gets crowded no matter where you go.
So you end up thinking, maybe I’ll just relax at home? That kind of vibe.
Our Tokyo operations are pretty much wrapped up. I’ve got one more bike to deliver, then I’m moving into full shutdown mode.
As I’m organizing things bit by bit, I get offers like “Can I help you move things?” very frequently. But here’s the thing: I’m the type who loves doing everything myself so I only ask for help when I’m really stuck.
I really hate rushing around and shuffling things about carelessly, and this timing is exactly when I can clean and organize properly. Plus, figuring out how to load things and planning the logistics is also kind of fun. I don’t think I’ll be moving much anymore,
but there’s so much to learn from this kind of event, so I’m savoring it and working through it steadily day by day, thinking things through.

I’d been meaning to do it for a while, but since I wasn’t really having problems with it, I hadn’t been looking for one. Now, finally, I was able to make progress on something small.
I was fixing it with leftover threaded rod, but it’s gotten seriously bent. It’s strong against pulling in the axial direction, but it’s completely useless against bending forces.
It fits perfectly and feels really satisfying. It would be even better if I made a collar too, but honestly, I’ve already put away the round rod and round pipe, so I can’t machine anything right now. It’s a small thing, but it feels nice and tidy now (*´ω｀*)
I removed all the shelves scattered across the ceiling. When I was removing them, I ran out of masks, so I was working in a balaclava, but the dust caused me to sneeze uncontrollably the next day and beyond—I had a rough time.
It’s a small thing, but preparation and planning really do matter.
What I think about during moves and relocations like this is you should use materials that can be reused as much as possible. Nowadays, everything becomes industrial waste, and disposal is often more expensive than buying new. I’ve recently realized there’s actually a lot of that in the world. When buying used houses or factories, think carefully before purchasing—you won’t go wrong.
The last move is paying off! I have surprisingly few things!
It’s kind of like a light early life review, if you will. As you live, things just keep accumulating. I want to accelerate the organizing even more with this opportunity.
It’s become incredibly easy to buy things in this world, hasn’t it? On the flip side, there’s the difficult task of reducing, which takes time. Don’t hide things away where you can’t see them— for every one item you add, remove one; sell or dispose of things you don’t use. That’s what matters. But stockpiles are a different category, so be careful.
Organizing while thinking things through is really fun. When you work alone like this, it becomes genuinely enjoyable. And yet, I’m amazed at how little trash I’m generating.
The toughest part is deciding about machinery and tools
These are dies for a punch that makes holes in sheet metal, and I own an incredible number of them. The quantity is so heavy it makes my back give out.
Plus, we have a 15-ton set press, so we can’t punch larger sizes. So sometimes I think, do I really need these? But if I dispose of them, there’s a good chance I’ll never get them back, which is the dilemma. When making meter panels and such, I sometimes need a specific die, so it’s really frustrating.
This P-touch label I made a while back is a bit hard to read now. It’s not impossible to understand when you look at it, but I really love labeling that’s instantly clear at a glance.
Box sizes and label design and so on—once you start thinking about it, it’s endlessly fun. Once you establish a format that works for you, you can organize everything with consistency and neatness. I think you’ll find it really satisfying.
