Today’s Handy Tips – Garage Log

Theme: How to safely lift a motorcycle onto a rear stand when it doesn’t have a hook bolt.

The Problem: Off-road bikes like the KLX and air-cooled Z bikes like the Z1000Mk2 have swingarm shapes that make L-shaped pads slip easily, and the moment you lift the bike you worry it might tip over.

The Solution: (※Please insert specific items or know-how here. For example: J-TRIP special receiving attachment, adding non-slip rubber, or axle shaft-through type stands, etc.)

The Benefit: With this, you can eliminate the risk of scratching your precious bike to zero, and solo chain maintenance and wheel washing become dramatically easier!

Stable lift-up even on off-road bikes

The key points are the shape and offset height.

The height is offset

For on-road use, you often don’t need this much height, so you can’t lift the rear at all.
This attachment has this shape for the Rebel’s “muffler clearance” .

When you think about it, it’s perfect for round or thin swingarms .

That elegant waist is wonderful (*´ω`*)

This shape is maximum perfection.
Since we use it for work “I don’t want to take even 1% risk” you know.

If you’ve ever had the stand slip off and scared yourself, I definitely recommend installing this.

J-TRIP can be used…

J-TRIP approx. 21.1mm
Daytona approx. 20.5mm

Just use this as a rough reference.
We personally use J-TRIP racing stands.
Daytona is slightly smaller dimensionally so there’s a bit of play, but it’s still usable.

These dimensions vary by manufacturer, so check before deciding.

By the way, the L-shaped pad is also sturdy and the strongest (*´ω`*) Unfortunately the stand body itself…

I’ve written about this in past blogs, so please read those too.

Garage Tips: How to Safely Use a Rear Maintenance Stand on Off-Road & Vintage Bikes!

Topic: Overcoming the anxiety of lifting motorcycles without stand hooks. Details: Lifting a motorcycle onto a rear maintenance stand can be nerve-wracking, especially for bikes like the KLX250 (off-road) or the Z1000Mk2 (vintage air-cooled Z). These models lack modern factory stand hooks. Using generic L-shaped rubber pads can be dangerous because they can easily slip off round or angled swingarms, risking a costly tip-over. To solve this, I shared our factory’s go-to method and specialized attachments that securely lock onto any swingarm shape. Verdict: With the right adapter, lifting even the tallest off-road bike or rarest classic becomes a smooth, stable, one-person job. Eliminating anxiety from basic bike setup is the first step to high-quality maintenance!
