Man, that was long……. It rained continuously for about 48 hours straight, didn’t it?
Still, we made it through this time without any issues, so I’ve gained quite a bit of confidence.
If rainfall were 1.2 to 1.5 times heavier than this, we’d probably be fine too……! Hehe.

I think the key was that we implemented solid countermeasures beforehand.
That said, there’s definitely a possibility of even more severe typhoons in the future, so I want to turn this experience into lessons learned
and apply them to our preparations going forward.

EASY DAM Blocks Flooding into the Crawl Space

We installed them in the crawl space and in front of the factory too.
At this level of rainfall, water wouldn’t reach flooding levels.

But it’s important to prepare for worst-case scenarios.
If water got into the crawl space, it would take forever to dry out.

Blocks lateral rain infiltration too!
By reducing the possibility of water intrusion, we eliminate the hassle of cleanup afterward.

Everything comes down to advance preparation.

Protecting the Swing Doors.

Shutters and factory swing doors have large surface areas, so they’re highly vulnerable to wind damage.
Positioning a vehicle as a buffer proved very effective.

After that, securing or moving indoors anything outside that might blow away or topple over makes it perfect.

48 Hours of Continuous Rain. The End is the Strongest.

DAY1 9/20
The wind and rain weren’t that strong, so honestly I thought “this isn’t so bad.”
The only thing was the constant rain, which was annoying, and“since we’re in typhoon defense mode, we can’t do anything”
Everything outside is inside the factory, and the entrance is sealed, so we can’t swap out the bikes on the lift.
In times like these, the best thing is to work on organization and process improvements we normally don’t have time for.

We ended up spending quite a bit on improvements over these two days ( ；∀；)

DAY2 9/21
Rain all morning again. It wasn’t particularly alarming, but…
In the evening, things suddenly changed and we got hit with extreme winds. That was genuinely shocking.
The factory walls and roof were making sounds like they might blow away, and I was on edge the whole time.

Around 9 PM the wind calmed down and we got through the worst. I was relieved that everything turned out okay.

Elevation Matters.

Both our home and factory are elevated one level.

With rice paddies in front, as long as they don’t overflow, water won’t reach either the house or factory.
Plus, this land sits about 2 meters higher than the surrounding area, so our safety margin is even greater.

There’s no risk of collapse from behind either.

Though I’ll admit it’s partly luck
anyone considering buying land or a house should evaluate it carefully—otherwise you’re headed straight for disaster.
You don’t want your newly built home or shop to flood immediately.
That said, flooding sometimes happens in areas not marked on hazard maps, so it’s hard to say for sure…

Our home parking area had about 20 cm of standing water. Since we don’t use it anyway, we didn’t implement any countermeasures.

The factory entrance became muddy from the drainage overflow.
This needs attention. The drainage is overflowing and some sand from the house is washing away.

The back area was fine with nothing amiss.
I was worried about the outdoor unit tipping over…

Cleanup and Patrol

EASY DAM is fantastic because you just drain the water, so it’s an excellent water barrier.
A light rinse on the ground makes it perfect!

The collapse zone near our home had progressed a bit…
I wish they’d fix it soon, but…they probably won’t do anything until it gets worse.

The route to the factory was muddy.
I wouldn’t want to ride a bike through it…

I’d recommend staying away for a few days or the rest of the week(*´ω｀*)
