I make a strong effort every day not to “put my own faults aside.” My usual stance of “not complaining and not belittling others” remains unwavering precisely because of this self-admonition.
Looking at the world today, I sense a growing tendency to exaggerate others’ mistakes and present oneself as larger and more perfect. Yet as humans, flawless work is impossible. What matters is recognizing errors and transforming them into learning.
The problem is that we tend to be least aware of our own mistakes. If we charge ahead without noticing, we’ll eventually become “the emperor with no clothes.” To avoid that, maintaining humility and approaching challenges with joy seems most important.
Mechanic work often brings the frustration of investing time and effort without seeing results. Still, I hope young technicians never lose heart and continue to find joy in working with machines.
Clear skies really do lift the mood… (from a few days ago) I don’t know… it feels like it’s been raining constantly since August. Haven’t ridden the bike at all. What to do, Aiful?
Service Request: Front & rear tire replacement (DUNLOP SPORTMAX Q5A) & comprehensive wheel bearing refresh
Tire Selection Rationale: Dunlop’s latest all-round high-grip “Q5A.” It combines tenacious cornering grip on winding roads with reliable confidence in cold and wet conditions, handling the peaky 2-stroke power with modern-day specs.
Work Focus: We don’t stop at simple rubber replacement. Complete polishing of wheel rim and bead seat—removing old rubber residue and oxidation corrosion (zero-leak foundation prep), bearing play and roughness inspection with fresh grease, and ultra-precise wheel balancing!
Shop Owner’s Note: “Autumn 3MA”—not autumn flavor, but autumn 3MA. We’ve meticulously sharpened the handling of this legendary blade with its mad carb-up-front, chamber-out-back layout from the ground up!
When a motorcycle is partially disassembled like this, it definitely looks like work is happening. Let’s quickly swap the tires and wheel bearings.
If you want the cheapest tire swap, a tire shop is your best bet! If you really want us to do it, please request it. Fair warning though—we can’t match tire shop prices.
All done and looking sharp! Great stance (*´ω`*) I really like how naturally this tire handles.
I’m an NTN bearing guy
Except when stock is tight due to sourcing, I stick with NTN. Just a preference really… Wheel bearings already installed rarely show “bad condition” signs. Most of the time it’s “probably fine.”
“Replace if it’s bad” makes it hard to commit to the work. So I ask: “How many years and miles has it been used?” If the age and mileage are substantial, replacement might be worthwhile. Honestly, bearings are incredibly durable, and sealed bearings are even more so.
Wheel bearings can be replaced based on age and mileage. *Around 4–6 years and 20,000 km
Based on the rust, these look a bit aged. It’s best to replace them during tire changes or wheel service *separate labor charge
When stuck on wheel bearing pullers, this is the one to reach for. I use this 98% of the time… I do have Hasegawa’s premium version too
I always check the distance collar length. Nowadays it’s rare, but I’ve seen cases where modified distance collars were too short. Knowing the dimensions helps catch assembly issues early.
Yamaha really does lightweight even the steel void… Unfinished?
Really handy! 1mm-increment bushing press tool. The stepped capability is key! Bearing presses should cover nearly everything.
A helper tool for all kinds of pressing work. Even cheap tools like this hold infinite potential with creative thinking.
Wheel bearings aren’t just a simple swap. One side is the reference, the other is the adjustment side. Too tight stresses the bearing; too loose does too.
Wheel press clearance isn’t eternally ideal either. Repeated removal and installation wears the wheel. Thoughtful, loving replacement keeps things running smoothly longer… To really check bearing movement, spin the wheel alone with a spacer bottomed out and the axle tightened—you’ll feel the difference. You’ll be amazed how much bearing fit affects smoothness!
Once assembled and the bike runs, the difference is tiny…
The hub bearing turned out special—delivery is next week… Thought it’d be done in a day
Chromoly to chromoly? Really?
Seems like they want to give the bike some nutrition. Upgrading to the pricier chromoly shaft—trendy choice.
Electroless nickel plating gives off a subtle, refined tone.
Topic: Installing DUNLOP SPORTMAX Q5A tires with comprehensive wheel rim & bearing refurbishment. Details: Happy Friday night from the Decoboco workshop! Autumn in Japan celebrates “Sanma” (Pacific saury), but to two-stroke aficionados, “3MA” is the iconic rear-exhaust TZR250. We fitted Dunlop’s latest all-round sport-radial, the SPORTMAX Q5A , which pairs exceptional cold-weather and wet grip with razor-sharp cornering stability. Rather than a simple tire swap, our mechanical focus centered on meticulous rim prep: thoroughly removing oxidized aluminum corrosion and baked-on rubber residue from the bead seats to prevent slow leaks, replacing valve stems, inspecting wheel bearing smoothness, and static-balancing to zero tolerance. Verdict: Combining modern high-grip compound compliance with friction-free wheel prep revives the legendary sharp handling of this two-stroke road-going missile. Precision under-work makes all the difference!
