Anyway, I“have very few basic tools”. I have lots of specialized tools, but… This one is a long-standing member among my few pliers. Honestly, I’ve been using it for more than 20 years.

While organizing my vehicle tools, I realized I didn’t have any pliers. Given the case size, I was thinking about what to put in it.
But when you use tools on the road, it’s usually not routine maintenance—it’s an emergency. You need to remove exterior panels or extract something stuck deep inside.
It fit perfectly in my vehicle tool case, so I thought I’d get the same Needle-Nose Long-Reach Pliers Special Purpose Duckbill 609ACP, but it’s surprisingly expensive. For work it might be worth it, but for vehicle tools it’s a bit of a tough call.

It looks a bit cheaper than before. I wish Knipex made a duckbill in similar dimensions, but they don’t seem to. Old one → vehicle tools New one → everyday tools That’s how it’s organized. Getting new tools is always exciting! Once you have a decent collection, you rarely buy anything new.
The key is this width. I mostly use it to grip clip-type parts. The tip doesn’t open easily—that’s its characteristic. It’s not really meant to hold and rotate things.
But it’s incredibly useful, which is why it survived the competition among my tools. I prefer my toolbox to be as minimal as possible, so“I don’t keep tools with low usage frequency” If I notice a tool isn’t getting used much, I date it, and after a year it goes to the goodbye room.
The old one has definitely opened up slightly. 20 years… or maybe even 30 years of use.
Back then, if you were buying tools, it was all about SNAP-ON—a status symbol. I remember vividly buying tons of them on credit from the van salesman with my meager paycheck.

If you stick to one brand for everything, you’ll miss out. It’s better to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each brand and choose tools that match your working style.
