[Thoughts] Wheel bearing movement—feel it directly? Check Unit 1 (*´ω`*)

With the wheel bearing distance collar fully seated,
how light is it? What kind of movement?

I decided to try this grand idea.

Wheel bearing positioning is pretty rough around the edges.
Some manufacturers specify a standard, others don’t.

You can check the relationship between the distance collar and the bearing position with your hand—with your fingers.

As long as the bearing inner diameter matches, anything goes.

I stacked up the front axle and collar that were lying around, tightened them firmly, and spun the shaft back and forth.

A little tight, a little loose—I taste-tested both.
Once you bolt it to the frame, the wheel’s own weight makes it spin pretty freely anyway, and problems are hard to feel.

With this method, you can sense those subtle differences.
Bearings are incredibly well-engineered parts that absorb all kinds of small errors and keep working.
The point is they function fine even if you’re pretty sloppy about it.
This check won’t give you dramatic results, but if you want to assemble things even one percent more functionally, it might be a really effective technique.
