When the moment comes, it’s surprisingly important to set aside your preconceptions and look at things with fresh eyes.
From experience, I’ve thought, “It has to be here! Mechanically, that’s impossible!” only to find out…
Oh, so it was there after all… how disappointing… seriously?
Assumptions create blind spots and narrow your range of options.
For example, a technician’s experience five years ago and ten years ago are different—hopefully they’ve grown.
But in that time, the motorcycles themselves have aged incredibly, and you encounter failures and deterioration you’ve never seen before surprisingly often.
Sometimes a seemingly mysterious symptom turns out to be a one-in-a-million lucky hit—something you actually had experienced or anticipated.
When you’re truly stuck, searching online is helpful, but if you broaden your perspective more laterally, you might find that puzzle piece of the mystery faster than you’d expect.
Lately it’s tough because you have to worry about whether original parts are even available.
