Inazuma 1200 Ignition System Tune | Perfecting the Spark with “AS Uotani SP2” & “NGK Power Cables”

I route the NGK Power Cable (102°) forward.
From an aesthetic standpoint, routing it backward would look better, but…
that would shorten the cable length, making maintenance harder when removing the plug wires. “Serviceability suffers” in that case.

Sometimes minimal hose and cable routing is ideal, but there’s also value in having “appropriate slack.” Right?
Today I’m wrestling with that balance too.

Important check when using NGK Power Cables

I always start with verification.
Since I’m using power cables, I need to crimp the terminals, so I check with actual measurements.
15-15mm is slightly short. I think 18-15mm or even 20-15mm would work better.

With 18-15mm it looks like this, so I’m thinking 20-15mm might have been better too…
Adjust appropriately.

The NGK Power Cable (102°) has a fixed direction on the plug side.
If you route it so the cord doesn’t twist smoothly, “the chance of it coming loose is reduced.”

The terminals included with Uotani can be bent somewhat, but not in all directions.
To create a layout with minimal stress, decide the up/down orientation on the cord side before crimping the terminal.

Drawing reference lines for the boot position and the UP-side positioning should reduce mistakes.

The included terminal has this shape when viewed from the side.
Looking at the image, you can sense the intent: “bend downward when you need to bend!”

Well, it does bend, so only worry about it if you’re particular!

BST36 (throttle cable) and Uotani coil contact

Hmm… ah, I see. Back then when I worked on it, it was the stock coil, so it fit fine.
I keep removing and reinstalling, puzzling over it.

I tried strategies A, B, and C… but nothing works smoothly.
I might have to make a new coil bracket…

I don’t want to add more parts, and making something is a hassle (last resort).
Wait… could I solve it with a Type 3 nut?
Type 3 = a thin nut with 60% of the nominal diameter

*Image is temporary.

Yes! Finally it fits.
Great, great!

Cleared the tight layout!

The BST36 has its throttle cable holder positioned quite far back.
It was right under the coil, causing a collision.

I adjusted the carburetor-side throttle cable to its lowest setting and adjusted from the throttle side.
I used a Type 3 nut to raise the coil higher.
If I’d done this from the start, I wouldn’t have wasted effort on that fabrication… well, that’s how it goes.

The breather looks like it’ll work as-is, so I’m relieved.
I was supposed to have the engine running and tire replacement done by now…
But I got over the hump, so that’s good.

Ultimate Ignition Upgrade for Inazuma 1200: AS Uotani SP2 & NGK Power Cables.

Objective: To maximize the potential of the engine and the recently installed BST36 carburetor. Parts: Installed the AS Uotani SP2 Full Power Kit (high-performance ignition control unit and coils) and NGK Power Cables (low-resistance spark plug wires). Effect: This upgrade ensures a powerful and consistent spark at all RPMs. The bike now starts instantly, idles smoothly, and pulls significantly harder.
