Sometimes Old Bikes Are Nice

 

 
It seems like fewer and fewer people ride old motorcycles these days.
The ones who do ride them are young people of today, but I wonder if that’s really okay—some of those bikes are so beat up, and yet
they’re riding them at pretty good speeds with bare hands. They must have never had an accident.
It’s this strange reality: why are people who don’t live in real-time so fascinated by these old machines?
I guess the design, color scheme, sound, and vibration satisfy them.
So I’m not against it, but bare hands are dangerous! And half helmets are dangerous too!
Even among people who own motorcycles, preferences split pretty sharply.
New-bike fans, touring riders, circuit racers, mountain-pass riders, custom builders, maintenance enthusiasts, same-model devotees, and so on.
Surprisingly, they don’t see eye to eye, and watching that from the sidelines, I think “heh heh” and get back to work.
Next year I’m thinking I’ll get a GS1000S inspected and ride it. The GS is slow though, man.
