The annual spring cleaning has started
and I’ve been tossing out things I don’t need.
Once you get used to listening to music from files, you can’t even be bothered to open a CD.
My Gigabeat doesn’t have batteries, so I can’t listen to it without power.
I thought, why not listen to some records for a change? So I fired it up.
Oh! ♪ The music flows and flows.
But if I don’t clean the record first, there’s all this hissing and crackling.
Well, I guess that’s part of the charm.
Why did I even buy a record player in the first place?
I guess I didn’t like the idea of never having listened to analog before, so I bought one.
Of course it was used—I think it was around 2,000 yen?
I found it in a classifieds magazine called Neko-san’s Quant, and I rode my scooter all the way out to Edogawa or somewhere to pick it up.
I was so excited when I got it home and hooked it up, but the belt inside came loose on the way back and it wouldn’t spin.
I was thrilled when I got it working again.
Records are different from CDs—the jacket is huge! Or sometimes it’s a different jacket altogether!
Well, that’s really the only reason—it just looks cool somehow.
I remembered how I used to go hunting for records. It was 10:20 p.m.
Yum.
