GPz550 Communication 10/14. Restoring a dirty screen! Ceramic compound is really convenient, you know~ (*´ω｀*)

My GPz550 screen is super dirty. I mean, it’s shockingly bad…
Well, I could buy a new one, but
it costs quite a bit to get the bike running, so I’m the type who wants to use what I can!

Yeah! Saving money = reasonable and exciting, progressing little by little.

I’ve introduced it many times before “Ceramic compound” It’s also effective on exterior scratches.
*Basically it works by removing material…
It cleans up really nicely, so I think it’s worth having one bottle on hand.

You can see through the screen, but… it’s really dirty

Don’t you get the impression that a dirty screen alone costs you 10 horsepower?
It’s such a disappointing finish that it could be nominated for Miss Miserable.

When it’s this dirty, you start wondering how clean you can actually get it.
Even if I mess up, it’s OK! I want to give it a shot.

The screen mounting method is so bad it’s hopeless

They must have worked hard back then to come up with a mounting method that wouldn’t break the screen.
“Steel bolt + damper to plastic nut”
If you naively follow the same mounting method, it breaks repeatedly and maintenance is terrible.
I’ll write about this in a different post (*´ω｀*)

The screen’s coating is peeling off

Of course there are scratches, but when you rub it with your fingernail, it peels off in little pieces.
In other words, it’s become a super annoying situation.

Since solvents would dissolve it, I lightly wiped it with a cloth dampened with a tiny bit of gasoline and it peeled right off.
Gasoline was the quickest way to remove this coating.
*If you overdo it, it gets hazy.

Ceramic compound – perfect finish on fine scratches

After about 40 minutes of work, it got to this point.
Of course, that includes the time spent rubbing off the coating.

When it’s in really bad condition, using a polisher is easier.
You can use it on light scratches on clean screens too, so if you try it, you’ll get a nice finish.

Of course you can use it on fuel tanks and other exterior parts,
but basically it works by removing material, so be careful when using it.
I also polished the used exterior parts on my Zephyr 550 with this and they became really shiny.
Motorcycle exteriors look clean as long as they have decent shine.
Just a little effort makes the appearance look so much better.

Please, now that the outside temperature is dropping, on an autumn evening? Or an autumn afternoon?
