Since I was renting a tenant property, mailboxes were already installed, so I’d never had to choose one before. When it comes time to actually select a mailbox, it’s quite the dilemma, isn’t it?
Ideally, I want something simple with great design and functionality. When you think about it that way, it’s surprisingly difficult to choose.
After searching and searching, I finally foundARTWORKSTUDIO Mail box2 without embossed lettering , and it had everything – design and functionality all in one. It was perfect. I even got the same one for my home mailbox.
And get this! You can choose from 8 different colors
The color palette is mostly subdued tones, which looks great. I think it works well with various situations and settings.
There’s also a version with embossed lettering. If you’re really into America, you might want to go with that one.
Since I prefer simplicity,I went with the one without lettering.
The construction is extremely simple! That’s all there is to it
When you open the lid, there are 4 recessed bosses. You just use these to secure it to the wall.
I made a plate and fixed it to the wire mesh.
The lock has a 3-digit combination! You can set it to any number you want. Once you align the numbers and turn left, the lid opens.
The mail slot is generously sized – A4-sized catalogs fit in easily.
Anything larger than that is a bit tricky, but since it’s a mailbox, this is sufficient. For larger packages, you can just have them put in a delivery box.
The capacity is quite generous. With catalogs, you could easily fit 3 or 4 of them if you arrange them well.
Now that I’ve moved to the countryside, I realizethere are virtually no flyers or circulars. If you don’t take them out every day, they pile up quickly – honestly, the volume of flyers in Tokyo is insane.
The analog mail notification feature is exceptionally well-designed
When you open the lid to insert mail,“the red flag also lifts up at the same time”
When you close the lid, the flag stays up as a notification. It’s quite analog, but it eliminates the need to check constantly, so it’s incredibly useful.
Honestly, I was impressed by how well this was thought out.
As you’d expect, the lid stays propped open. The postal worker can easily insert lots of mail this way.
