Critically Endangered Species? BIMOTA SB3 Inspection, Oil, Plug Change and More

Air-cooled engines captivate people…

The fusion of pipe frame and air-cooled engine
is absolutely beautiful (*´ω`*)

With lots of visitors today
I’ll work on finishing tasks between customers~

Let’s remove the BIMOTA fairing.

It’s one piece from upper to lower
You have to spread it and drag it out

Protect it with cardboard and such
and it goes smoothly.

Truly
“No way, absolutely, brute force”
Without protection it gets scratched all over and
cracks. …Be careful
Once you get used to it, it’s no big deal.

Anyway, it’s a pain to store

The exterior is just these two pieces…
Seriously? That’s the moment you think “What a Bimota”

Camera wrap is
really good

It’s reusable and very nice.
No tape = gentle on aged paint

That’s subtly important for classic bikes

Changed the engine oil and filter

Tightening bolts on classic bikes is tricky
It’s easy if it’s a bottoming-out design

But floating exhaust pipe flanges
are subtly difficult, I think.

The plugs are a bit dark…

I set the plug gap to
Watanabe’s specification.

I adjusted the ignition timing a bit…

The GSX1100SR had been digitized.
This is important for smooth throttle response

This area too, probably
parts won’t be available
so it’s quite a hassle~

I tweaked the advance a bit on the Watanabe side

Cleaned the air filter and adjusted the clutch

Pom pom!

Now just inspection and we’re done~
