The path to video editing should be getting considerably faster soon. I finally managed to solve the microphone connection issue (゚Д゚)
YouTube editing and such have become unbelievably easier, you know. I feel like Urashima Taro! And so, the long-running Unicorn GSX1200S remaining work continues.
Today’s Maintenance Log (Final Edition)
Vehicle: Unicorn Japan GSX1200S KATANA
Work: Engine Oil & Oil Filter Change
Purpose:
To properly protect and lubricate the newly installed “Yoshimura ST-1 Cam” and “FCC Heavy-Duty Clutch” from the initial break-in.
To ensure the “cooling performance” that is the lifeblood of an oil-cooled engine operates at 100%.
Result: Engine started! The mechanical noise became quieter, and the rich, heavy idling characteristic of an oil-cooled engine resonated beautifully.

Normally, the poor limiter cut unit just gets tossed under the tank! It finally has a proper home, but the utilities haven’t been connected yet.
The bike side is a bit long, and the limiter cut side is short. After cutting, modifying, and installing it Voilà? Honey? Doesn’t it look cleaner? What happened? That’s the kind of result you get.
It’s hidden behind the bodywork so you can’t see it, but cleaner is always better. Probably. Hey Michael Knight Rider…
I’ve finally been able to organize the area around the lathe recently *a bit late. Thinking about it slows me down, so I’m still pondering…
But I’m excited because it’s going to become a really nice rack. More on that later.
I’ve already quickly machined the stock throttle sleeve.
Engine oil is Shell Advance 4T Ultra
After switching to fresh oil, crank it firmly to circulate oil to the head.
Please replace this type and the one with a 21mm hex head. The current OEM version comes with a magnet. It doesn’t cost much.
Whirr♪ Vroom Easy engine start. Turn the idle screw to build oil pressure and warm up the engine. No oil leaks or strange noises—it’s running quiet now.
Putting the ST-1 in a 1200 really does make a huge difference.
The rear also uses sintered metal. Resin is surprisingly good too, though…
Lately RK’s lineup has been shrinking, so I’m using Daytona more often as a lifesaver.
I also lightly chamfer the backing plate, but chamfering the “entry direction” seems to help a bit? Brake pads naturally wear more on the leading side. Some wear is inevitable as it gets pinched during entry.
But just a slight chamfer should allow the disc to enter more smoothly… It won’t negatively affect the disc either, so it might improve the feel.
Don’t grind the top and bottom edges. *The contact surface shrinks and the disc wears unevenly.
After a final check of everything, we’ll head to inspection and we’re done!
Unicorn GSX1200S: Fresh Engine Oil to Protect the Upgraded Engine.
Work: Changing the engine oil and filter. Details: After installing the Yoshimura ST-1 camshafts and FCC clutch, pouring in fresh, high-quality engine oil is the crucial final step. For an oil-cooled engine, the oil acts as both a lubricant and the primary cooling medium. Fresh oil is essential to properly protect these newly installed high-performance parts. Verdict: The engine started right up. The mechanical noise is smooth, and it sounds incredibly powerful. Ready for the final test ride!
