Inazuma 1200 Rearset Modification | Dramatically Improve Shift Feel with Shift Rod and Pillow Ball Replacement

A rearset kit with steps angled this much is extremely rare.
When angled, you naturally push at an angle, which isn’t ideal.

Let’s do some modifications to improve the shift feel.

Remove the original shift pillow ball.

It’s crimped onto the shift arm, so let’s grind off the crimp and drive it out.
Drilling a hole at the center of the press pin makes removal easier.

By the way, the shift arm side uses a right-hand thread.

Using a tangless helicoil to create M6 threads in the arm

Since we absolutely don’t want it to fall out, “I’m creating threads in the shift arm.”
Plus, using a lock nut creates a double-lock, so it’s even more secure.

Tangless helicoil should be adopted urgently

The stress of insertion is greatly reduced.
The beauty of this product is that there’s no way to fail, and you don’t even need to break off and retrieve the tang.
You save two or three steps of work.
Honestly, there are only benefits.

Offset collar ground and TIG welded into one piece

Prepare a full bevel and weld them together.
Make it as solid as possible! Since the offset is large, I combined them.

Quick coat with gun coat, bake it, and done (*´ω｀*)

This is the limit due to clearance issues

We could push the rearset kit collar further, but… there are issues that come with it, so after considering everything, this is good enough.

We’ve also shortened the shift rod itself.
It’s safer not to expose too much of the threaded portion of the shift rod.

They break surprisingly often, so excessive length and angling are things to watch out for.

On the pedal side, we could use ultra-low-head bolts to tighten things up, but… the threaded portion of the pedal is a blind hole.

If it went all the way through, we could use ultra-low-head bolts plus a lock nut for peace of mind,
but in this configuration, we need a bolt that can be tightened securely.
