GS1000S Electrical Reinforcement | Solving Ground Connection Weakness with “Crankcase Direct Connection” & Dyna Coil Wiring Repair

Maintenance Log for This Article

Vehicle: SUZUKI GS1000S (Red and White Coolie)

Work Content:

  • Ground Reinforcement: In addition to the factory frame ground, direct ground connection from the crankcase (aluminum) is added to ensure a proper electrical path.
  • Ignition System: The exposed terminals of the Dyna coil are rebuilt and sealed with Megmix for insulation and waterproofing.
  • Wiring Organization: Replacement of burned connectors and correction of messy wiring layout.

Key Point: GS electrical troubles are often caused by “poor grounding.” Adding ground wires is a highly effective preventive maintenance!

Things are getting pretty intense…
Let me dig a little deeper into various things (*´ω`*)

Looks like various things got turned on (*´ω`*)

The wiring situation is quite sharp, so I’ll organize it once.
With the connector burn from the other day, let’s clean it up properly.

GS1000’s main ground is weak. Adding extra is better

Normally, a wire of about 2sq comes from the main ground and connects to the main harness side ground.
The GS1000 has multiple locations “where ground is taken from the frame”

This often causes trouble “rust and poor ground connection” can occur.
If possible, redo the main ground from the crankcase (aluminum)
and further add one more wire from head to tail and you’ll be absolutely perfect.

I’ve put a board piece underneath, so the room has progressed a bit.

Dyna coil connection is exposed

Well, I knew about it before…
Finally? I’m redoing it.

I rebuilt the terminals and wiring and sealed them with Megmix.
This should prevent any snapping sounds.

The wiring length and connector work have also improved workability.

I was worried whether the Dyna coil connection was correct in the first place, so I checked.
It’s 3ΩDC1-1, so no polarity—I’m relieved. I connected it the same way as before just to be safe.

Years of…deterioration showing up now

I’ll replace the intake manifold too.

I’ll also replace the throttle cable and clutch cable.
To be continued
