The warming weather hints that riding season is upon us.
So, we have a Bandit 1200 here.
It’s got about 50,000 kilometers on it—right at the halfway mark.
It came in recently because the engine has been noisy, but—
I always wonder if it’ll really get that quiet just from adjusting the valve clearance.
Unless it’s really excessive, there’s usually something else going on.
Cam chain slack, rocker arm wear, generator gear nut looseness—that sort of thing.
I can’t say for certain, but having seen so many different cases, I really can’t make a definitive call.
Anyway, let’s move on.
The cam is pretty much seized up everywhere ★

The engine damper is pretty worn—it’s got a lot of play in it.
The carburetor sync is off as shown in the photo.
After adjustment—perfect! It’s running smooth and stable now.
Whoosh!
