We’ve been asked to fabricate a cowl vibration damper. There’s nowhere to get a boss from at all…
Connecting the left and right cowls was ruled out due to installation hassle and appearance.
Modifying the frame side is out of the question.
After thinking it over, we decided to weld a boss to the nearest oil cooler to get one.
We bent it at 55 degrees and reinforced it with a solid rod. It’s lightweight and extremely strong.
We barelled it to improve the appearance since it looked plain. Of course, fasteners are used for mounting.
It’s fixed with a single M6 bolt to allow some flexibility.
Whether it’s a fit issue, the right and left sides differed in length by about 5 mm. It’s smarter to match the current state rather than adjust the lengths.
We got it locked down tight with a snap.
Since we removed the oil cooler, we also completed an oil change at the same time.
