The epitome of violent naked bikes? GSF1200 Yoshimura ST-1 cam oil-cooled maintenance and optical axis adjustment bracket fabrication and more

Since I received it on September 3rd, it’s been completely untouched for two full months.
In terms of work volume, there’s quite a lot to do, but from experience “not appearing too busy” is crucial.

Once you start this kind of work, it goes fast! Things progress smoothly.

The black frame with red bodywork looks really cool!

This not-overdone feeling is really nice.
For long-term enjoyment,
the stock carb with the air cleaner box is definitely the strongest setup.

Whether you go north to Hokkaido or south to Kyushu, or to high-altitude areas, there are no problems, and the carb overhaul maintenance cycle is long, so it’s easy on the wallet and you get to keep the bike in your hands longer.

So this time we’re swapping in a Yoshimura Stage 1 camshaft.
Though I suspect the actual numbers are probably really low…

My guess is… it might be getting close to a ground cam?

By the way, the only 4-cylinder selling for under 100,000 yen is the oil-cooled one.
I think there was only 1 left in stock at Yoshimura online, so maybe…

With the ground cam, the price is around 120,000 yen like a sword, or maybe around 160,000 yen for the Kawasaki type…
Either way, it’s quite a painful expense.

If you think newer is better, it’s safer to wait a bit,
and if you prefer something more reasonable, I think the currently available ones are OK.

WEBIKE currently has 3 in stock, so it might be a good target?

It’s possible the stock is just low by chance.
But the price will definitely never go down in the future,
so if you’re thinking about replacing it, clicking to order is the smart move.

Be sure to check the generator connector

I did the oil-cooled maintenance a few years ago, so it should have been fine then.
Checking the charging system overall at the right timing will increase your peace of mind.

Plus, you can prevent the worst-case scenario of the bike catching fire.

For now, I’ve reconnected everything the same way.
Keeping a stock of everyday materials like this is important.

I’ll check the charging output when I start the engine.

We’re replacing the generator damper and such

Since I polished it during the previous work, it’s in nice condition.

The generator damper was also still in good condition.
I’ll go ahead and replace it this time too.

I polished the body with a stainless steel brush to make it sparkle.

We’re also replacing the starter motor O-ring.
Lightly polishing the mounting area on the crankcase side
should make the starter motor grounding smoother.

If there’s even a 1% chance of improvement, it’s worth doing.

The clutch release doesn’t seem to have any leaks, so I’ll put it back as is.

And so it continues.
