OV-10A Continued Work

dsc_1986
Time just keeps passing by. My apologies.

Back to work after a long break.

dsc_1979
Replacing the old cast iron disc.

dsc_1982
It’s a Sunstar Premium Racing disc.

Since the caliper is Brembo, the thickness is T=5mm.

dsc_1983
I went with Gicleur TYPE C pads.

This front setup is quite tedious. You really need three hands to install it properly.

p1620927
I’ve spot-welded it in two places, so that improves convenience.

p1620931
I cleaned the caliper the other day, so I polished it with rust-preventive oil to check it.

p1620932
Hmm… when bolts are rusty, the wear suddenly becomes very obvious.

dsc_1986
I replaced them with electroless nickel-plated bolts.

p1620934
I wanted to replace the chain, but I’m holding off because I made a mistake ordering the rear sprocket.
I’ve been making a lot of sprocket ordering mistakes lately, so I need to be more careful.

p1620935 p1620936
The aluminum machined funnel looks rough, so I’m polishing it.

p1620937 p1620938
Good! When parts are clean during maintenance, both the technician and the owner feel happy.

p1620939 p1620940
The connector from the generator felt squishy—I poked around wondering if that was normal, but it looks like it’s melted.

p1620941 p1620942
The extended section is also peeling, so I’ll replace it.

p1620943
Sorry, the thick wire is only blue. After crimping with a splice,

p1620944
I solder just the splice area.

p1620945
I wrap tape inside, then protect it with heat-shrink tubing. It gets thicker, but it’s reliably insulated. My mistake was running the wiring parallel, which I just noticed. That’s painful.

p1620946
I didn’t have a 2-pin, so I used a 3-pin. If the load causes it to melt, a layout where there’s no continuity is safer, I think.

p1620947
The bracket for fixing the license plate isn’t ideal, so I want to use this one instead. It’s basically stock parts. I won’t list every detail.

p1620949
It looks like the aluminum was attached to the FRP pretty forcefully and hung from it, but it obviously won’t hold.

p1620950
The holes in the fairing are loose too… To fix it as is, I drilled holes in a plate.

p1620951
Work should be clean, so I welded the nuts.

dsc_1985
It’s a temporary fix, but here’s how it looks.

• PP, so lightweight
• Stock, so even more reassuring with floating mounts
• Reflectors can be installed too.

If you just make a fenderless setup with aluminum, it’ll crack right away. If you’re going to build it, floating mounts are essential.
