I’m gradually bringing my personal garage (factory) closer to its ideal form. No matter how much I do or think about it, there’s always more to consider.
Today, after having electrical work done, the screw compressor I purchased the other day finally got up and running. It’s used, but there’s something exciting about getting new equipment.
The small compressor I’d been using had been in service since we opened, so it worked reliably for over 20 years. Reciprocal compressors are really tough machines. Since I couldn’t be sure when it might break down, I had it disposed of as scrap.
I’m confident this screw compressor will last me a long time, and I plan to use it with care.

You should have a 100V power outlet outside the garage
I accidentally forgot to ask for this.
Without a 100V power outlet outside the garage, you can’t use machines like high-pressure washers outdoors. When building the factory, so many things were happening at once that I completely forgot about it.
Now I can safely use the high-pressure washer outside. If you’re planning to build a factory, I recommend having a 100V power outlet installed outside.
Had the power breaker expanded with external conduit
The contractor advised running it through the attic, but to run it inside, “I’d need to add two more inspection hatches,” they said.
Cutting through the ceiling would create dust, and the ceiling frame might even need some structural work. That sounds like a lot of hassle, doesn’t it?
Since I don’t mind at all, I decided to have the piping run outside. I asked them to minimize the electrical work and modifications, keeping it as simple as possible.
If you’re planning to build a factory, make sure to plan it out carefully and thoroughly (；∀；)
Once started, it continues running in unload mode. The sound in unload mode is like you’d expect from a commercial refrigerator. Since the air tank has capacity, once it’s filled, it doesn’t need to run to produce more air.
At our level of use, the compressor probably won’t run very often. If I have time on Wednesday, I’ll try my first special wet blasting test.
