Why do I have to collect dead insects every morning like this?

With my home and factory right in front of the rice paddies, I guess it’s inevitable?
That’s what I thought.

Honestly, I’d be collecting 40-50 dead insects of various sizes every morning.
I didn’t really mind it at first,
but “winged termites” really got to me. They come in through the gaps.

When I’m writing the blog at night, I often think “something’s flying around? Something’s crawling?”
When I open the entrance door,
countless ants are clinging to the walls seeking the light.

(ﾟДﾟ) Yikes!

I’m generally fine with insects, but “large quantities are a problem.”
It’s not every day,
but I’ve become concerned about the massive swarms of winged termites on humid nights.

I have daily meetings with Gemini about this.

At first I was just vacuuming them up, but there’s no end to it.
And since I can’t get them all, the pile of dead insects in the morning is incredible.

It was getting tedious, so I came up with a countermeasure.

The result: if you don’t let light escape, they won’t come.
They head toward other bright areas instead.
When I tested covering the glass with aluminum foil, “they basically disappeared.”
I was quite surprised by this.
Just cleaning up insects in the morning takes 10-15 minutes easily.
With just aluminum foil, it dropped to basically zero. That’s huge.

But aluminum foil doesn’t look great, so I decided to install a more practical roll curtain.

Wide width with no standard sizes = custom orders are expensive (；∀；)

After researching roll curtain dimensions, I spent days researching.
This research time is surprisingly tedious.

Then I found a pretty good-looking roll curtain on Amazon.

I originally wanted to order from a proper roll curtain shop, but
I couldn’t find the right size, and when I did, it was ridiculously expensive, so I got scared off.

7/27 → 8/12 delivery. About 2 weeks lead time. (*´ω｀*)

I installed it quickly.
The ceiling board was thick, so the screws held firmly, which was a relief.

The finish looks like this.
The size is perfect and I’m more satisfied than I expected.

After all, making it easy to raise and lower was definitely the right call.
I didn’t realize heat was coming through this frosted glass section.
The Meguro shop was like a cave, so I never had to think about this before.

The material is pretty standard. But it looks surprisingly good.

This custom size width 1860 x length 2280 for 18,233 yen including tax
is more than enough! Absolutely! In fact, it was a great call!

Installation uses the trendy click-lock method.
Five mounts came with it, so I used them all.

So what’s it like at night??? Oh man, it’s perfect!

There’s a slight gap so some light leaks through, but it’s no problem at all.
Today is relatively cool so there aren’t many insects, but there’s basically nothing on the entrance side.

For nighttime insect problems, I think the first step is to prevent light from leaking out.

I also considered various options,
like those “electric” bug zappers, you know?
Of course I bought one, but those actually attract insects, so
“they’re good for insects that have already gotten inside,” but if they’re visible from outside, insects will come toward them, so be careful.

By continuously making my own space (factory garage) more comfortable like this,
I’m working hard while enjoying myself so the shop can continue for years to come. (*´ω｀*)
